What happens during my first visit?
During your first visit you can expect the following:
* Arrive at your appointment with your forms complete or 15 minutes earlier if you need to complete the forms
* You will provide your prescription for Physical therapy
* We will copy your driver’s license and insurance card
* You will be seen for the initial evaluation by the Physical Therapist
What is an initial evaluation?
During the initial evaluation the therapist will discuss the following:
* Your medical history
* Your current problems/complaints
* Pain intensity , what aggravates and eases the problem
* How this is impacting your daily activities or your functional limitations
* Your goals with Physical Therapy
* Medications, tests, and procedures related to your health
* Objective testing which may include some of the following
Palpation or touch around the area of pain/problem
Range of Motion of the joint to check for the quality of movement or restriction
Muscle testing to checking for muscle strength and quality of muscle contraction.
Neurological Screening which is checking to see how the nerves are communicating with the muscles sensing
touch, pain, vibration, or temperature.
Special Tests to confirm or rule out the presence of additional problems
Posture Assessment, the positions of joints relative to the ideal and each other may be assessed.
The therapist will then formulate a list of problems you are having and how to treat those problems. A plan will be
developed with the patients input which includes how many sessions per week, how many weeks, home ex programs,
patient education, and short/long term goals.

What do I need to bring with me?
Make sure that you bring your Physical Therapy prescription (provided by your doctor) and your payment information. If your insurance is covering the cost of physical therapy , bring your insurance card.
If you are covered by workers’ Compensation, bring your claim number and your case manager/ adjustors contact information. If you are being covered by auto insurance or an Attorney lien, make sure you bring this information.

How should I dress?
You should wear loose fitting clothing so you can expose the area that we will be evaluating and treating. For example , if you have a shoulder problem a tank top is a good choice, knee problem , it is best to wear shorts or Capri’s’, and for low back problems wear a loose fitting shirt and pants, so we can perform a thorough examination.

How long will each treatment last?
Treatment sessions typically last 45-60 minutes per visit.

Does McColumn Physical Therapy accept my insurance?
Prior to your initial visit Angela our billing manager will verify your insurance to determine coverage for our services. She will also inform you of your deductible or co-pay and any other out of pocket expense. Although we may not be a provider for your insurance , some insurances have out of network benefits to pay for our services. Contact us today for your appointment.
